New Year’s Resolutions

Posted on January 6, 2012 by Bunner Staff

New Year’s resolutions are one of those things we feel we should or should not do for self-improvement. It’s a new chance to develop better strategies against the dissatisfaction about some aspects of the previous year’s life. Some people may have determined to eat a healthier diet, which is good! However, you should not only focus on what you put into your mouth, you should also pay attention to your mouth itself. To achieve a healthy smile in 2012, how about some resolutions to floss more, go to the dentist sooner and not later, and cut back on candy and other things that can cause cavities?

The mouth can give us clues about our overall health. Many diseases show up first symptoms in the mouth as red and swollen gum tissues. On the contrary, if an oral condition is healthy, then the likelihood of having other systemic diseases is significantly lower.

Here are a few more suggestions:

Quit Tobacco: Smoking cigarettes and cigars can lead to oral cancer. So make this the year that you stop using tobacco of any kind.

Flossing: Flossing removes harmful plaque between teeth where your toothbrush cannot reach.

At Your Home Family Dentistry, our resolution is to create more stories of happy patients who will achieve improved dental and overall health from our quality service!
